この度Feb gallery TokyoではアーティストYUKEYによる自身初の絵画個展『I am a first class noob.』（私は一流の初心者です。）を開催いたします。

YUKEYは、中世ヨーロッパの写本の挿絵、オカルティズム（錬金術や占星術といった神秘学）やアートフォトグラフィーなどから参照された様々な要素をサンプリングすることで”創作へ向かう動機（モチーフ）”をつくり上げていきます。YUKEYにとって、それらの要素の”ヘタな模倣”（本人談）とアイロニカルな視点により「意図せず没落させてしまうこと」は贅沢な趣味のひとつなのだそうです。それは作家自身が影響を受けたモノたちへの敬意を示す愛情表現でもあるのです。

Feb gallery Tokyo is pleased to present artist YUKEY and her very first solo exhibition, "I am a first class noob."
YUKEY samples various elements such as medieval European manuscript, occultism (mysticism), art photographs etc. to build motifs/motives for her creation. She states that "unintentionally ruining" these elements through "exquisitely bad imitation" is one of her luxurious hobbies. It is also an expression of her love and respect for all the matters which inspired her.

作家コメントartist statement:

水彩絵の具を使いますがあまり水は使いません。

キャンバスには*パルプベースを塗ってから描いています。

ところで私は小さい頃、

誕生日ケーキがなくなるのが嫌で、

わざと半分残して次の日の朝、冷蔵庫に飛んでいき

ケーキに向かって「お誕生日おめでとう」と言いながらその半分を食べるという悲観的且つ、

ある瞬間瞬間を楽しむ意地汚い子供でした。

そんな止まっているようで動いているような、

残念そうだけど楽しそうな、

ナンセンスな表現をするのが好きです。

ピアノを弾くのが好きです。

最上級の敬意を込めて弾きますが、

どうも下手くそなので

「名曲を没落させてしまう」という

一つ贅沢な趣味があります。

絵を描く時にも通ずるものがあるように思います。

夏休みの宿題で、

地域の交通安全ポスターコンクールがあり、

小学3年生から中学3年生まで連続入賞した小さな記録があります。

そこから絵に意味を持たせる。から少しずれて、

比喩表現を好むようになりました。

*紙肌を再現する下地材

I use watercolors but not too much water.

I paint on canvas after applying *pulp base.

By the way, when I was little,

I hated to see my birthday cake disappear, so

I would precisely leave half of the cake

Next morning, I run to the fridge, and

finish this half while saying "Happy Birthday" to the cake,

I was a pessimistic child who enjoyed every moment of the day.

I was such a still, yet moving child,

I seemed disappointed yet delightful,

I like to express nonsense.

I like to play the piano.

I play with the utmost respect.

But I'm apparently not very good at it.

Here, I have one luxurious hobby.

I feel somewhat similar when I paint.

For homework over summer break,

There was a local traffic safety poster contest,

I have a modest record of consecutively winning prizes from the 3rd grade of elementary school through the senior year of middle school.

Since then, I shifted from letting paintings take on meaning.

I started to prefer figurative(metaphorical) expressions.
